I have taught in an academics-heavy Bay Area private school.
I volunteer-tutor in a socioeconomically disadvantaged Bay Area public school.
I tutor students from 4th - 8th grade from public and private schools .
That's the least you should expect of your child's tutor!
In my experience, kids tend to be kids. They all have a deep curiosity. Kids love to learn. If your child doesn't, any more, let's find out why and fix it.
Before teaching, I was a business executive. I tutor by the principles of project management. I NEVER just drill a student, making them do the same thing (the thing they are struggling to do!) over and over. I analyze the problem, plan a strategy, set goals, and measure progress against those goals.
I am one of those "lifelong learners" that many private schools promise to turn your child into. I've learned , and academically excelled, in three diverse disciplines. I know how to learn - and that, in my experience, is what it takes to succeed in school.
